Beautiful
to look at and wonderful to drive, this 1971 Alfa Romeo 1750
Spider is well sorted and nicely finished. It is a West Coast
car receiving much love and care over the years. The 1971 1750
Spiders are regarded as the best of the square tail cars - they
have become difficult to source and rare to duplicate in this
condition.
Cosmetics
include a very nice stage 1 re-spray in 505 red and original
style door panels and seats complete
the black
interior. Very tidy inside and out - the interior includes
updated carpets, soft-clean dash top, nice gauges, and clean
clear glass. The Cromadora Daytona wheels, Pirelli tires, European
headlight covers, black cloth top and black boot cover are
all clean and in great condition. The panel fit is nice and
the gaps are good. The glove box includes a re-printed 1750
owners manual. The Bumper rubber and metal look to be original
showing some minor wear, but are certainly very presentable.
All lenses are in good shape. Exterior lighting and dash lighting
function properly – as does the engine bay light and
trunk light. The trunk is clean and includes the original rubber
mat, jack and spare tire/wheel, - it does not have any other
tools. All the way around the car is very nice and must be
seen to be appreciated.
Mechanically this 1971 1750 Spider is a very happy car. The
engine sounds wonderful and runs very smooth, the car shifts
properly and is very engaging to drive. The suspension feels
tight and steering responsive - the car tracks straight and
stops strong and smooth. The previous owner(s) converted the
car to full European specification - including intake manifold,
cams, Weber carburetors, and air box and preformed many mechanical
upgrades. The engine was rebuilt with new pistons and liners,
the crank was polished, the rods were checked, and valve job
preformed. Underneath the Alfa shows no evidence of rust and
I did not see any major collision damage. The passenger door
does appear to have been replaced at some point. The clutch
was renewed, flywheel resurfaced, and a new brake master cylinder
added. The previous owner rebuilt the transmission and renewed
the syncros. The car shifts properly and is buttery smooth.
A new water pump was recently added, as was a new heater blower
motor and heater fan switch. The heater now functions properly.
Previous owners are said to all be in California: San Francisco
Bay Area, and Sacramento - now Southern California. Some additional
History: An e-mail from Automobilismo Storico Alfa Romeo reveals
chassis number AR 1485444 corresponds to an Alfa Romeo 1750
Spider Veloce USA (105.62), manufactured on 13th October 1970
and sold the 30th October 1970 to Alfa Romeo, Newark, USA.
The body colour is red, with black skai interior.
Perhaps the very best part - the Alfa song. Mille Grazie!
If you have never driven an early Spider, you will be very
pleased with how nice this car feels, how entertaining it is
to drive and how wonderful it sounds. This is a car you can
be proud of... It can be enjoyed and driven regularly, and
it does not break the bank. As quality sports cars go, this
car is a tremendous value at $14,750.
As a small dealer, I only purchase cars I love and I buy the
best I can find. I am a little bit of a fix - it - artist.
I like to push the repair and restoration process to the next
level. In the process I learn some history about the make and
model, I read everything I can find - and of course I exercise
the cars prior to sale. Someone has to do it!
Legal
Discloser: This car is now 36 years old. It has been driven
almost 90,000 miles. It is by no means
perfect - very
nice, but not perfect. It is a very clean car, it is well sorted
and is a wonderful example you must see and drive to appreciate.
While I have provided you with a detailed description of the
car, I always encourage an on-site inspection - seeing the
car with your own eyeballs and driving it with your own hands
and feet. If this cannot happen, I will assist you and answer
your questions as honestly as I can. My website is designed
to aid and instill confidence in clients who do business with
me. As always is the norm for 36 year old sports cars, this
vehicle is sold “as is” and with “no warranty”.
If sold to a California resident, I must collect the appropriate
sales tax and fees. If sold out of the state of California,
it must be shipped via a licensed carrier who will provide
a Bill of Lading. Questions? Call Ken at 949-842-9198.
